This year, Rolex released five new models for the Day-Date 36mm watch at Baselworld 2019, one of the world’s premier watchmaking events.
- Like other 36mm and 40mm models, Rolex uses 18 ct white, yellow or everose gold for the case and bracelet. You can customize this model by choosing the dial, a diamond-set or fluted bezel, or, a President bracelet with or without diamonds.
- Interestingly, the use of decorative stone –opal and turquoise, for the dials, makes the 2019 new models gorgeous. Likewise, the diamond and sapphire dial bring bling to the lineup and give this whole launch an updated look.
- Furthermore, you can customize each piece below with the oyster fluted bezel or the diamond-set bezel. A diamond-set President bracelet is also an option.

What Makes the Rolex Day-Date Special?
The Day-Date was the first watch to display day spelled out in full. How’s that for innovation? In 1956, Rolex pioneered this innovative feature –one that we now take for granted. Even to this day, there’s something satisfying about seeing “Monday” instead of simply “Mon”. The days are also available in 26 languages.
While this is a great piece of history, it’s not reason enough to make a purchase in 2019. There’s got to be something more to offer, and of course, there are many reasons –reliability, precision, waterproofness, and of course, the prestige that comes with buying a Rolex. Here are the Day-Date’s features.
- Firstly, the Oyster Perpetual Case is an integral component of the Day-Date 36, which ensures the waterproofness of the watch –in this case, to 100 meters or 330 feet.
- Secondly, the movement used is the Calibre 3255, patented by Rolex. This movement makes gains in precision, power reserve, and resistance to magnetic fields and shocks. According to Rolex, the 3255 exceeds the standards set by the COSC (the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), so that it is actually two times more precise than an official chronometer.
- The sapphire crystal has a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock, to improve the readability of the date.
- Rolex adds to the exclusivity factor by reserving the President bracelet for its premium watches, which includes the Day-Date. The innovative design, introduced with the first Day-Date in 1956, took on the name Presidents’ watch because so many world leaders used the watch. The bracelet is made of three gold links. The center links are polished and the outer links have a satin finish with polished edges. A crownclasp is concealed which makes the bracelet look seamless.
Currently, the Day-Date 36mn is not available in platinum like the 40mm model.
